RENEWABLES: Ukraine fifth in Europe for onshore wind energy installation in first half of 2019

Ukraine occupies Europe's No. 5 position for first half of 2019 ahead of Turkey, Greece, Britain and Spain

Ukraine was the number five nation in Europe for onshore wind energy installation in the January-June 2019 period, according to new data released by wind energy trade body WindEurope.

In line with the ranking, Ukraine installed 262MW of wind energy capacity during the first half of the current year, placing the country marginally behind Germany and Italy in the continent’s top five nations in terms of new wind energy installations.

The growth of Ukraine’s wind energy capacity is part of a wider renewables boom that is attracting international investors to the country as it seeks to diversify away from a traditional reliance on Russian energy supplies and build on its natural advantages.
